Our Go-To Vacation Spot
I'm playing catch up and thought I'd blog about the vacation Bella and I took last June.
In 2003 our family took a vacation to Amelia Island and stayed at a condo that was in walking distance to the beach. Since then we were hooked and it has become a popular vacation spot for us when we want to "get away", especially since its a relatively short drive (6 hrs). Fernandina beach is just south of GA/FL border on the Atlantic Ocean coast.
Louie couldn't take any time off from the restaurant so Bella and I joined my mom and dad and shared their condo. It was a treat to have Christy and Nick spend a few days with us in the beginning of our stay. We all enjoyed the first two days hittin' the beach and pool, then downtown for dinner.

This was the first time that Bella had been to the beach since she was 3 months old:

She was pretty brave when it came to the ocean as long as someone was right next to her - and it tickled me that she liked the taste of the salty water LOL
One night we ventured down to the marina and took a walk down "Yacht Row". Boy would it be nice to own one of those big-uns!
Then it happened... 3 days into our vacation I got sick... an infection and a virus all at once. AND THEN, Bella came down with an ear infection the following day. You can guess what we did for the rest of our vacation... Bella and I stayed in PJs all day and watch Disney movies to pass the time. It really stunk to be that sick on vacation and away from the comfort of our homes. Bella felt better 2 days later and my illnesses started to ease up the day we left for home.
While we were stuck indoors Bella had fun helping Mom ("Nonna") bake cookies to cheer me up:
And we had an awesome lightning storm that Dad ("Poppy") caught on camera:
Prior to leaving the beach, we spent one last night downtown and checked out a new Mexican restaurant and then stopped in at a new frozen yogurt shop for dessert. Bella thoroughly enjoyed her treat for the night:
We enjoyed our time with my parents AKA "Nonna & Poppy" and I know they loved seeing how much fun Bella had at the beach. A BIG thank you for letting us tag along :) Love ya'll!
